New Accounts

There are three types of personnel who access Fermilab computers: employees, contract workers and visitors (which includes users.) Users who are not employed by Fermilab may have on-site or off-site access, and are considered visitors. Please read the section(s) below that apply to you.

 On-site Employees

  1. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing.
  2. Obtain a Fermilab ID during the New Employee Orientation. This includes putting information into FermiWorks.
  3. Your supervisor or a colleague may then fill out the Computing Username and Primary Accounts form for you:

·         Log in to the Service Desk

·         Click "Request New/Renew Accounts" > "Computing Username & Primary Accounts"

This form is used to request any of the following:

·         user name for all your computer accounts at the lab

·         Fermilab Email account

·         Kerberos Principal

·         Services Account

·         FermiWorks Account

Contractors

  1. The hiring manager fills out information in FermiWorks including an email address for the person being hired as a contractor.
  2. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing.
  3. Your supervisor or a colleague may then fill out the request form for Computing Username and Primary Accounts:

·         Log in to the Service Desk

·         Click "Request New/Renew Accounts" > "Computing Username & Primary Accounts"

Visitors

  1. Read the Fermilab Policy on Computing.
  2. Apply for a computer account via https://fermi.service-now.com/new_acct_request.do

Note: The title of the form is “Request for Fermilab Visitor ID and computer accounts.” It means an ID number, not a physical badge.

3.      If you have answered yes to the question about being on-site on the form, you will receive an email with a link to FermiWorks and your user name and password after your account has been approved. (This may take up to three business days.) Please enter the necessary information into FermiWorks. For more information, see: http://wdrs.fnal.gov/users/fermi_badges.html

  1. Specific details about your account request will be sent to you via email from the Service Desk.
