Scenario/Use case:

This article helps you decide if you need a certificate, and whether you need a CILogon Basic CA certificate or an OSG certificate.


Instructions:

Most Fermilab users are eligible for an OSG certificate or a CILogon Basic CA certificates:

Fermilab recommends that staff use CILogon Basic CA certificates for the various functions requiring certificates. 

 

Functions requiring user to have a CILogon Basic CA certificate or an OSG PKI certificate

 

CILogon Basic CA certificate uses OSG PKI certificate uses
Web Access: Accessing some Fermilab restricted websites and web services (e.g. various instances of DocDB, some computer security pages) Web Access: Accessing various restricted websites and web services
Email: NOT usable for digitally signing email Digitally signing email

Grid: Accessing grid resouces

Web server administrators: Setting up SSL server for Apache or IIS
(Besides the CILogon certificate, you need an OSG PKI service certificate.)
